What is Newclim?
Climate change presents a significant challenge to agriculture, particularly for perennial fruit crops such as grapevine and apple. Due to their long lifespan and extended production cycles, the adoption of new varieties and the improvement of cultivation management methods to adapt to environmental fluctuations are notably slow. Additionally, these crops are highly susceptible to various pests and diseases, while societal demand for reduced inputs, particularly phytosanitary compounds, is increasing. As a result, new educational programs are needed to train undergraduates, graduates, and professionals in managing more resilient cropping systems that integrate the latest scientific and technical advancements.
To address these complex challenges in agriculture, Newclim uses the Challenge Based Learning (CBL) framework. This approach encourages learners to work collaboratively on real-world issues, developing creative solutions that can be applied both locally and globally. By integrating CBL, the Newclim platform empowers students, educators, and professionals to become active participants in building more resilient and sustainable agricultural systems.
